Every student residing in the residence halls is assigned a nine-digit telephone authorization code for as long as they live within the NIU Housing System. The authorization code is used to provide separate long-distance telephone bills for each roommate, as well as allow residents to use any phone in the residence hall rooms or NIU house phones located across campus.
KEEP YOUR AUTHORIZATION CODE CONFIDENTIAL! This code will work in any NIU residence hall room and with campus house phones located in many buildings throughout campus. You are responsible for the security of your authorization code, and ALL calls placed using your code.
If you suspect any misuse of your authorization code, or believe the security of your code may have been compromised, call ITS Telecommunications IMMEDIATELY at 1-815-753-0963. ITS Telecommunications may monitor the use of any telephone authorization code to help prevent fraud.
Your telephone authorization code is provided when you move into the NIU housing system. Please check your mailbox. If you did not receive an authorization code, check with your Community Advisor, or the front desk of your residence hall, or go to phonehome.niu.edu.
If you lose or forget your telephone authorization code, go to phonehome.niu.edu.
You are required to use your telephone authorization code to place any telephone call to a location off NIU's main campus (NIU's campus numbers are 752-XXXX and 753-XXXX). To place a call, dial the telephone number and wait to hear the confirmation tone. After you hear the tone, enter your nine-digit telephone authorization code. Your call will then be connected.
